Exercise 2 Q3 (Music Downloads 1/2)
In January, the manager of a music company released two new songs: 'Rock2U' and 'Shining Lights'. In February, a new song ‘My Sweetie’ was released. A user pays
2
2 zeds for each download of any one of the songs. The following graph shows the number of downloads from January to June.
What is the amount collected from the downloads of the
3
3 songs in May?
Answer
1500 zeds
2250 zeds
4500 zeds
9000 zeds
In order to calculate the amount collected from the downloads of the three songs in May, we need to first find the total number of downloads for each song. Looking at the graph, we can see that 'Rock2U' had 2000 downloads in May, 'Shining Lights' had 3000 downloads, and 'My Sweetie' had 1000 downloads. Since each download costs 2 zeds, we can simply multiply the number of downloads by 2 to get the total amount collected for each song. Thus, the amount collected for 'Rock2U' is 2000 x 2 = 4000 zeds, for 'Shining Lights' it is 3000 x 2 = 6000 zeds, and for 'My Sweetie' it is 1000 x 2 = 2000 zeds. To find the total amount collected for all three songs, we simply add these amounts together: 4000 zeds + 6000 zeds + 2000 zeds = 12000 zeds. However, since we are only interested in the amount collected in May, we need to subtract the amount collected in the previous months. In January, 'Rock2U' had 1000 downloads, 'Shining Lights' had 500 downloads, and 'My Sweetie' had 1000 downloads. In February, 'My Sweetie' had an additional 500 downloads. Thus, the total amount collected in January is 1000 x 2 = 2000 zeds, in February it is (500 + 500) x 2 = 2000 zeds. Subtracting these two amounts from the total amount collected in May, we get: 12000 zeds - (2000 zeds + 2000 zeds) = 8000 zeds. Therefore, the amount collected from the downloads of the three songs in May is 8000 zeds.
